Children

"The little prince" by Antoine de Saint Exupery makes a part of our memories since almost all of us have seen the cartoon-version on TV. A pilot, lost in a desert with his plane crashed, tells the story of visiting a stranger; a little prince with his simple and lovely character...
I'm not going to repeat the story in the blog but I'd like to publish the dedication words hereby. Here it is:

###############
TO LEON WERTH
I ask the indulgence of the children who may read this book for dedicating it to a grown-up. I have a serious excuse: he is the best friend I have in the world. I have another excuse: this grown-up understands everything, even books for children. I have a third excuse: he lives in France where he is hungry and cold. He needs cheering up. If all these reasons are not enough, I will dedicate the book to the child from whom this grown-up grew. All grown-ups were once children--although few of them remember it. And so I correct my dedication:
TO LEON WERTH WHEN HE WAS A LITTLE BOY
###############

Can't express my feelings after reading the dedication. It is a must read before starting to read the book.
Honestly, I should confess that it is really difficult to understand it. It is the story of a kid who does not understand why the people need to order to own things. Why some are faithful and some are not. How a snake can send someone to heaven with its poison,...
He, in the mean time, learns many things: There are many roses like the one he fell in love with; There are many obstacles to cope with. And most of all, "the important things in life are visible only to the heart" so the time away from the rose, makes the rose more special to him. Therefore, even though there are many roses, his love for his rose makes her unique...

So, do you think that a grown-up can understand all of these?

"My flower is up there, somewhere...", he says, watching millions and millions of stars...

  • This post felt like a veil of silk, falling from high and moving to the breeze.
Ah. . .or shall I say, it felt like a breeze, caressing the skin. So nicely written.

Indeed sometimes, I feel the dedication of "the little prince" was one of the things I liked most about that book!
