Traffic light

In Japan, the same as any other country on this planet, traffic lights come in three colors: Green, yellow (orange), and red. There is, however, a funny issue here. What?
Well, here green light is called blue. So, when you hear about the blue traffic light you have to consider it as green.
This, regardless of its origins, reminds me a short story I read about 10 years ago.
There was a traffic light installed at a crossroad guiding drivers 24hrs. The light, watching cars passing everyday, was doing a good job. One day, surprisingly, the light turned to blue, a color which was not already seen on traffic lights. Everybody was confused, cars were crashing, bumping each other,...
After some time, the light turned to its original colors (green, yellow, and red) and the traffic jam was vanished afterwards.

And the light was whispering sadly: I wanted to show you the way to the sky. But you didn't realize...

  • What I noticed about traffic lights in Japan:
even this country is so well developed, electronic stuff everywhere but the traffic light are not synchronized at all. In Europe when you go by car you can follow so called "wave" - stopping once at lights you can pass the city not stopping at all following the speed limits shown on the special tables. In Japan, driving car makes you so angry - u got to stop almost on every traffic lights. How it come, they don't considered "wave" we know in Europe?

Agree. There is a huge number of traffic lights here and you got to stop. No wave.

  • What a great story! A while back (in my blog) I was also ruminating about the color blue... and came across the fact that apparently, many languages simply lack a distinctive word for blue -- (in fact, there are no color words in primitive Indo-European speech!)!
