Technology heading to the edge

Several years ago, I read an article about science and technology in general. The author (well, I do not remember him) was saying that the technology is approaching its limits very fast. The proof was that nowadays, scientists are using the smallest objects in the world to produce the devices. And he meant that a molecular level used in many industries (with IC technology as the leader) can not be scaled down anymore; We are approaching the basic species which form the whole world and it is impossible to crack down the electrons-for instance- to diffuse to a smaller world.

The idea looks true if you consider silicon as the basis for the current technology. You know, silicon technology is approaching to an end knowing that no other material is found as a good substitution for silicon. Silicon carbide (SiC) is perhaps the luckiliest one with the ability of resisting higher temperatures and currents. SiC, however, has got lots of problems itself and is found to be difficult to be used in an SiC-based technology.

All of the above is correct but still there is a hope. To me, the ultimate in everything is creatures you see everywhere. Made by the God. So, maybe the bio-based sciences can solve the problem. But still there is a long way to go.
