Blonde hair

"Blonde hair, Blue Jeans, Best things I've ever seen"
Do you remember this? Yes, the song by Chris de Burgh in "This way up".

Actually, I'm not sure if these are the best things he has ever seen. But, the motivation for this post comes from the fact that here in Spain, people colorize their hair to look like those blondes. And back to those years of my life in Japan, Japanese and Koreans were also coloring their hair into a blonde or (sometimes) strange colors.

Now, the question is: Who said that the blonde is the best?

Don't tell me this is just kind of fashion or something. The fact is that people think this way. They make themselves blonde coz they want to be. You know, spanish people are european, so why do they need to prove it this way? Or is it exactly what they want to say? What about those east-asians?

I believe that the problem is somewhere else. But where?

  • the grass is greener on the other side of the fence! simple that is the reason! you are Caralunya? oh, what a place! don't like their people's attitude so much, they think they are something!

  • I agree, the grass is always greener..the british love the dark and mediterranean look and are always trying to get brown skin in the sun....its so funny especially as most turn red rather than the deep mocha colour they are trying to achieve....honestly though I think the whole blonde thing is about trying to look more childlike- I remember reading a paper about this many years ago which found that women try to emulate childlike looks by dyeing the hair/wearing makeup etc making their eyes look bigger because apparently this is more attractive to men....you don't see many men dyeing their hair blonde in these countries.... :)

  • Nice blog. I lived in Spain for two months... Ahhhhh... Good old days. I had such a great time there. I hope you do too. I just found your blog, and enjoy reading it. Very good points you make! I love the end part to the Tom & Kate piece you wrote!

You are right. The grass is greener. And about the people of Catalunya: almost everybody says the samething. Even the people from south of Spain complain about the attitude of these people.

  • Few month ago I went to a party in Teheran, I was the only one with dark hair among some 25 women. I have no objection to this on principle. What bothered me was it seemed most didn't have much other interest in life! :)
