New year

New year, to us, may mean a lot of things; new life, new chances, new friends,...
And perhaps that's why we celebrate it happily.

To us, Iranians, new year starts when the spring starts, when the nature wakes up after those cold days of winter. And it brings hope, freshness, happiness,...

To Christians, the new year comes with cold winter. And perhaps the most beautiful thing is the snowfall which brings freezing days with, making it memorizing especially for the kids who receive great gifts from their parents.

Feliz navidad...

  • Happy new year Cyrus! I wish you all the best.
Swedes are christians, at least on paper, so they celebrate new year. But they also have something called "vårdagjämning". I don't know the english name, if there is one, but if I should try to translate it would be something like "spring-days-coming". Before the swedes were christians this was a very special day and celebrated greatly. Marking the return of the sun. It is still present in the swedish calendar and it is on the same day as Noh Rooz :-) We also celebrate the 23 of June. That is the day when the sun is at is highest point. And that's my birthday by the way.
Take care dear. And may 2008 be a prosperous year for you.
